Don’t give into labels
They serve to just divide
Someone else’s standards
That make some run and hide
A fish will seem a failure
When it comes to climbing trees
This is but one impression
Of what some people see
Accept that you are different
We all are in some way
Is it a weight or perhaps a platform
That you can stand on some day
Accept there will be challenges
In a world you don’t fit in
But when you claim your power
Your true path will begin
About the Poem What You See
The poem What You See is about mental illness and neurodivergence. Simply putting these two topics together creates a sense that they are related. They are different, and at the end of the day they are just labels. I’ve worked on the outskirts of the mental health world for the last couple of decades. One of the things I found interested was then when the coding system for mental health changed from DSM-4 to DSM-5 and ICD-9 to ICD-10, almost anyone could have a diagnosis. For years there was such stigma around mental health and most of the examples we hear about are the extremes. Most people who fall into these categories are fully functional members of society, they just process the world in different ways. Some clearly need medication, but many just need to not have to fit in. We need not to segregate people based on our differences (mental or otherwise), but accept that we are all going to interact with the world differently and celebrate that.
Inspirational Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
