What will you remember
When you are old and gray
The times we lived in darkness
Or those precious sunny days
The time we spent in service
It was just something that we did
We didn’t know much better
Since we all were only kids
Growing up too quickly
Denied the sweeter things of life
And thrown into a conflict
With so much pain and strife
For many it was the letters
That helped them through the fight
It always is the little things
That help make our world bright
About the Poem The Little Things
The poem The Little Things was written to honor PFC Anna Mae Wilson Robertson on her 101st birthday March 5, 2025. She is one of the last two surviving members of the 6888th Battalion. They were an all black unit of the Women’s Army Corps that was responsible for sorting and delivering mail to soldiers and their families during WW2. You may have seen the Netflix movie with Kerry Washington. In April Anna Mae she will receive the Congressional Gold Medal.
Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
