It is always waiting for us
But we don’t sit around and wait
It could be hours or even decades
Before we each do learn our fate

And so we take each mission
Knowing it might be the last
Trying to make a difference
Until the die is cast

So many gone before me
More than half a century before
Young lives cut down too early
By the carnage that was in store

As Marines we stand together
Through the darkness of the night
Until our final mission
We always bring the fight

About the Poem The Final Mission

The poem The Final Mission is about the U.S. Marine Corps. There’s an old joke that Marines don’t die, they just go to hell to regroup. There’s definitely a difference between Marines and members of the other services. I was in the Air Force for 8 years. Marines are Marines forever. It’s not written anywhere, but it definitely is a mindset. The remaining Marines from the Vietnam War are few and far between. But I guarantee that every one of them is ready to fight to the end.

Inspirational Poetry Books

Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products

While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
