Just more than a whisper
Or a softly blowing breeze
Can set your life in motion
And put your mind at ease
Do not try to alter
The path that your soul chose
The seeds have just been planted
For bringing forth a rose
Don’t expect it to be easy
Or without pain or tears
But you’ll understand the purpose
Perhaps in a few years
It’s something to hold onto
That will someday bring you joy
Many memories await you
That you don’t want to destroy
About The Poem Something to Hold Onto
Something to Hold Onto is a poem about our connection to this world. Every day people lose that connection. Just among Veterans, 22 will commit suicide every day. The current numbers for teens and pre-teens are frightening. A few decades ago I had two people in my house commit suicide within about a year of one another. I still remember the police officer telling me to have a nice day when I asked “who is going to clean this up?”. I’ll spare you the details.
Everyone needs something to hold onto. It may be a person, a place, a purpose or just an idea. We all lose these things from time to time, but not everyone finds something new to hold onto. That’s where we lose people. It’s not a scientific or clinical explanation, but it tends to be true. You can’t always give something for someone to hold onto, but sometimes we can help them see what they can’t. Often that is enough to get them back on track. If they are struggling with problems, help them find solutions. If they have lost hope, see if you can find some for them. And don’t discount medical help. There is no shame in asking for help.
Inspirational Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
