Once you made sandcastles
And angels in the snow
You spun til you were dizzy
And found dandelions you could blow
Once you drew green dragons
And didn’t color within the lines
There were no rules to follow
And things always turned out fine
Then someone made you question
The work that you had done
And gave you an eraser
And it wasn’t as much fun
Many stopped creating
When there started to be rules
Don’t forget they are just suggestions
So treat them just as tools
About the Poem Don’t Forget
The poem Don’t Forget is about reconnecting with our younger self that wasn’t afraid to be silly, bold, or color outside the lines. We often unlearn creativity in favor of rules. They aren’t always absolute. Sometimes they are just guidelines but we let them hold us back because we think they are limits to what we can or should do. They didn’t exist when we were 5 years old, and they really don’t exist now. The canvas is blank and anything you can imagine is possible. Don’t forget.
I need to thank Jack Conte, President of Patreon, for the idea for this poem. Watch his SXSW speech if you need even more of a reminder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwn6-8XpIuE&t=16s
Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
