In truth there is no other
The one, the true, the real
No attempt at imitation
No false glory to steal
Don’t look long at others
With comparison in mind
It is but a distraction
And despair is all you’ll find
There are many forms of beauty
Don’t forget that one is you
You have a special purpose
In work that you must do
Let yourself be authentic
Just set your spirit free
Chart your own direction

About the Poem Authentic
The poem Authentic is about being our own true self. What does that mean? You have to decide for yourself. Oscar Wilde once said, “Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” In an age of influencers and AI it’s easier than ever to emulate, copy, or have a computer create something on your behalf. We are currently flooded with headlines, and sound bites that eventually just becomes noise. I believe people will seek out the unique voices out there. If you can be authentic, there’s a good chance you will eventually be heard.
Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
